Record Labels

Record Labels: These come in all shapes and sizes. From the ambitious indie band that puts out their own DVD on their own label through small independent labels that carry only a handful of artists to the Sony's and WEA's who control most of the industry and could buy small countries (maybe not so small). If you are looking for money, try to get a major label deal. If you are looking for more control or "personal attention", then maybe an independent is the path for you. A lot of indie's will take on bands that the majors will not touch. Of course, you still have to write good songs to get any kind of deal. A label can help a band with tour support, paying to make records, distribution, even merchandise. But none of this is written in stone until you sign in blood on the dotted line. Just do your research.
